Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg: Dark Chateau Picture For Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg: Dark Chateau from Troll Lord Games Price: £7.49
RRP: £8.99

This adventure is designed for and fully compatible with the Castles & Crusades® Role Playing Game and the Castle Zagyg: Yggsburgh adventure and campaign setting.

Long before the Archmagi Zagyg moved into the deeps of the great castle that came to bare his name, he took up his dwelling in a house north of the fledgling town of Yggsburgh. The house there he built of stone, and around it a great fence. Here he hid himself away, nestled in the deeps of the Menhir hills.

This Chateau served as his home for many years and labored in its laboratories learning the trade of the wizard. Here lay his apothecaries, his conservatory, and solarium. He built donjons beneath and flooded its recesses with all manner of dark thought and incantation, until at last a heavy, brooding darkness lay over the Chateau. Few visited the eccentric mage and the fear of his madness spread through the valleys and across the hills of Yggsburgh. But one day, without warning the wizard gathered his books and charts, his beakers and jars and all the myriad materials of his studies, closed its doors and removed himself from the Chateau. Later the folk of Yggsburgh learned that Zagyg had settled in the nearby castle, whereat he continued his many and varied magical studies.

And the Dark Chateau was far from his thought and fell into disuse and ruin.

Yggsburgh City Expansion: Moat Gate

The Moat Gate District of the Free Town of Yggsburgh is the. Daily there is a flow of traffic into and out of the Moatgate, that gate that connects the Outs with Yggsburgh proper. Through this gate flow workers, businessmen, ladies, and city leaders, all going about their daily tasks. With them come foreigners, thieves, uncounted underclass, spies, and adventurers.

The areas around the Moatgate reflect this varied traffic. Near the gate are businesses that cater to foreigners and denizens of The Outs, while cheap housing abounds to hold the workers that keep the city and The Outs productive. The Fane and Convent of the Three Norns lies in the Southeast corner of the city, and the neighborhood around it is upper class with businesses around the Moatgate.

Here your brave adventurers will meet the underclass and find outfitting for basic adventuring. They can dine with a retired Knight of the Citadel or take their repast in a bawdy bar. Castle Zagyg: City Expansions

South of the fabled Castle Zagyg lies the Free Town of Yggsburgh, a heavily fortified community of some 25,000 residents, with another 10,000 or so persons dwelling on the lands it claims as its own. The town is constructed on a rock bluff where the River Nemo is joined by the Urt River, an area that encompasses about one square mile. Five more districts, "The Outs",comprise its suburban areas, most of which are east, across the Yggsburgh Canal. Together these 24 districts make up the ordered and prosperous Free Town of Yggsburgh.

Gary Gygax's Hall of Many Panes Picture For Gary Gygax's Hall of Many Panes from Troll Lord Games Price: £22.99
RRP: £27.99

As you recover your senses from the mind-wrenching effect of the force behind whatever magic it was that the Danneen deity called Bili sent at you, it becomes plain that you have been sent to some “elsewhere.” It doesn’t seem to be the brazen floor of some hell, but it doesn’t look very promising otherwise…

This adventure is suitable for a party of six d20 adventurers of 8th or greater level. If the party is to be given a free hand in deciding the order in which the panes are accessed then a few of the characters should be of the 9th or 10th level. With just a little work on the GM’s part characters of 11th-14th level could adventure here—simply increase the number of monsters encountered, add extra levels to the NPCs, or place horrific guardian creatures here and there as pickets for the areas already detailed.

Tomb of Kubla Khan Picture For Tomb of Kubla Khan from Troll Lord Games Price: £6.49
RRP: £7.99

A Path Unearthed

For long years the Temple of Kubla Khan stood, a lonely edifice in the waste. Here the Khan’s priests had paid homage to the demi-god of war. But in time of years their numbers dwindled and eventually the Temple fell into ruin. It stood unoccupied for ages until Yuggilv, the Crawling Queen, came to reside there, making the Temple a nightmarish prison. Unknown to the Queen, her prison’s foundation were a Tomb’s ceiling. Over all these long years the Tomb of Kubla Khan, long ago sealed to prying eyes, lay forgotten, hidden beneath the Temple’s floors. But in time, a band of doughty adventurers managed to win their way into the Prison of Yuggilv. Through horrific struggles they came to her den and cast her and her foul minions to the abyss. Unbeknownst to them, they unearthed the hidden portals that led to the entrance of the Tombs themselves, far below the surface.

War in the Lands of the Dead

A horror lies within the Khan’s Tomb. Few who have entered have returned and those who have, gibber madness of dark places and strange, nightmarish creatures. They speak of insects the size of men who bare weapons and shields of iron. They babble of the priest of the dead and the war between the insects and his beasts of madness. But there are rumors too, rumors of a wealth beyond imaging. The old Khan hoarded mounds of gold and gems, artifacts and relics of power to hurry his passage to the divinity he ever sought in life and strove to achieve after his death. It is this hint of wealth that calls the intrepid adventurer to the Tomb of Kubla Khan.
