    RRP: £39.99

    December 16, 1944

After a period of fog, rain, and snow blankets the area, three German armies unleash 26 divisions against thinly held American lines in the Ardennes forest of Belgium and Luxembourg. The objective of the Germans is to push through the Ardennes, then cross the Meuse River and head for Antwerp. Hitler hopes to split the Allied armies apart and smash their vital supply port at Antwerp. Can the Americans stop them?

Historically, the German army trampled the American VIII Corps and penetrated within two miles of the Meuse. The Americans stubbornly fought the Germans at many critical crossroads slowing and then stopping Germany's elite forces. Historically, the German offensive achieved little except to create a "bulge" in the American line.

Baraque de Fraiture Picture For Baraque de Fraiture from Critical Hit Inc Price: £16.99
    RRP: £18.99

BARAQUE DE FRAITURE, BELGIUM, 20 December 1944: The German effort to encircle or bypass American forces in the Ardennes offensive required aggressive, even reckless pursuit of any breakthrough. Invariably, this strategy resulted in unexpected, but nonetheless vicious confrontations. One such conflagration involved file leading force of the German 560th Volksgrenadier Division and the recently deployed American 203rd AAA Battalion at a tiny Belgian crossroads called Baraque de Fraiture. A small company sized patrol of the 560th’s Kampfgruppe Schumann encountered heavy automatic weapons fire while traveling north along the N-15 highway at the small crossroads. The 80 men of this bicycle-mounted reconnaissance unit lost 12 men dead and 14 captured from the deadly M16 (nicknamed ‘Meat Choppers’) and M15A1 anti-aircraft half-tracks of the 203rd AAA Battalion. In this instance, German aggressiveness proved costly. Although this first battle of Baraque de Fraiture was to be an American victory, the German forces to follow were determined to take this vital position...

Barbarossa to Berlin (Reprint) Picture For Barbarossa to Berlin (Reprint) from GMT Games Price: £35.99
    RRP: £39.99

World War 2: Barbarossa to Berlin presents both the Allied and Axis players with a wide range of exciting game choices, while illustrating the key historical factors of the war: from the importance of mechanized forces in combat to the importance of oil to fuel them but without the complexity of other strategic WWII designs. And, unlike many of those games, World War 2: Barbarossa to Berlin lives up to its title: an Axis player who fails to win the war may still win the game. The winner is often decided on the last turn as the Allied player struggles to extinguish the last traces of the Nazi empire. Designed by Ted Raicer as a follow-up to his multi-award-winning World War One strategic game, Paths of Glory, World War 2: Barbarossa to Berlin modifies the Paths of Glory systems to capture the strategic and operational dynamics of WWII in Europe.

Bitter End, Attack On Budapest 1945 Deluxe Edition Picture For Bitter End, Attack On Budapest 1945 Deluxe Edition from Compass Games Price: £31.99
    RRP: £34.99

Bitter End is an operational-level simulation of the German attempts to relieve the encircled Hungarian capital of Budapest, besieged by Soviet forces, in January 1945. Compass Games brings to you this hard-to-find classic in a new, upgraded deluxe edition!

By January of 1945 Nazi Germany’s military fate was sealed. There was nothing the German forces in Hungary could have achieved that could have substantially delayed or even mitigated this defeat. That did not deter the German attempt to relieve Budapest. Hitler’s goal in ordering the attack toward Budapest was not the rescue of its garrison, but rather the recapture and retention of the city. The garrison was in fact ordered not to break out but instead to hold and await relief. Few commanders on the German side took the idea of the retention of Budapest seriously, however. Had the relieving German forces gotten to within a few miles of the city, a breakout probably would have been attempted.

Bitter End lets the players explore the historical possibilities with two scenarios. In addition, players can test their skills with several viable historical alternatives, with the inclusion of forces that could have been available to the respective commanders, allowing a large variety of options. Bitter End is VERY suitable for solitaire play!

Included in this deluxe edition of a classic, Compass Games has increased the size of the map to include two 22"x34"sections, 456 back-printed die-cut counters (we increased the size of them too!) a rulebook complete with scenarios and historical commentary (for the first time available in English), example of play (not previously available) set-up charts and tables on three full-color cardstock play aids (graphically upgraded and improved!) all combine to provide sumptuous game experience and a virtual time machine to explore this compelling Bitter End…

Bitter Victory, The Invasion of Sicily 1943 Picture For Bitter Victory, The Invasion of Sicily 1943 from Avalanche Press Price: £13.49
    RRP: £14.99

After chasing Axis forces out of Africa in the spring of 1943, the Allied armies prepared to return to Europe. After studying several possible landing sites, the British and Americans decided to invade Sicily. Strategically located in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, its capture would help secure Allied communications thorugh this vital waterway and de-stabilize Italy’s fascist regime.

In June, the British Eighth Army landed on the island’s eastern coast and the American Seventh Army on the south. Axis forces resisted bitterly, but finally were chased off the island.

The game includes four scenarios, covering various Axis and Allied plans to defend and attack the island as well as the historical situation. The game system, used previously in America Triumphant, Alsace 1945 and Red God of War, takes only a few hours to play.

Game pieces represent battalions, regiments, brigades and divisions. Headquarters are vital to activate units and send them into action; supply is also important to keeping your units at full efficiency and players must choose how to allocate their resources. There will never be enough of them to accomplish everything at once.

    RRP: £14.99

When two people sit down over a table to play a historical board game, they're not looking for the same thing every time. Sometimes they want an in-depth study of an event; sometimes it's just the desire for competitive fun. Defiant Russia leans heavily toward the latter.

The topic is the 1941 German attack on the Soviet Union. The map portrays the western Soviet Union from the Polish border to the area east of Moscow, and from the Arctic regions on the north to the Turkish border on the south. It's divided into hexagons, at a scale of 45 miles across each.

Players control the actual units that fought in this campaign. Axis units mostly represent army corps. These include German, Finnish, Italian, Hungarian, Spanish and Romanian units. German tank units provide the real striking power for the Axis, and these are the strongest units in the game.

Drive on Stalingrad, The Road to Ruin Picture For Drive on Stalingrad, The Road to Ruin from Decision Games Price: £34.99
    RRP: £39.99

Drive on Stalingrad, The Road to Ruin is a two-player, low - to - intermediate complexity, strategic-level simulation of Fall Blau (Operation Blue), the German attempt to conquer Stalingrad and the Caucasus area of the southwest Soviet Union in 1942. The German player is on the offensive, attempting to win by seizing key areas on the map. The Soviet player is primarily on the defensive in the first scenario, but he is also given the chance to run a full-blown counter-offensive in the second, "Operation Uranus," scenario.

Game play of the main scenario encompasses the period that began with the Germans' launching of "Operation Blue," their offensive toward Stalingrad and the Caucasus on 28 June 1942. That scenario ends on 15 September, after 11 weekly game turns. The second scenario starts on 19 November 1942, with the launching of the Soviet "Operation Uranus" counter-offensive, and continues for six weekly turns to the end of December, when historically the German attempt to free their encircled 6th Army at Stalingrad ground to a halt.

Each hexagon on the map represents approximately 16 miles (26 kilometers) from side to opposite side. The units of maneuver for both sides are primarily divisions, along with what were actually similarly sized Soviet tank and mechanized "corps." Air power is represented abstractly. Each full game turn represents one week.

The Fast Action Battle (FAB) games place you and your opponent in the roles of field commanders for memorable 20th Century battles. FAB games focus on speed and playability with low-unit density while keeping the history both accurate and exciting.

Volume 1: The Bulge brings you the Battle of the Bulge from December 16th through December 27th. You command the division and brigade level units using the historical orders of battle. Like Bradley and Montgomery or Model, you order your forces to key points, and decide how and when to order extra Assets to bolster them. There are never enough of these Assets to give to all the units begging for them, so you need to weigh your decisions carefully. FAB games also make use of Special Actions, which allow the players’ opportunities to the turn the tables on one another throughout the game.

FAB delivers an exciting new blend of units and decisions to the block game genre: your forces are a mixture of wooden blocks and die-cut counters. This blend allows players to face tough command decision choices in a fresh new way.

Volume 1: The Bulge contains the following scenarios:

  • “River Dance” (the campaign game covering all 12 days), which plays in 4-5 hours once players have mastered the game’s systems, and gives both sides the chance to attack and defend.
  • “To the Meuse” (a three hour Tournament Scenario covering the 16th through the 21st of December).

  • Gazala 1942 Picture For Gazala 1942 from Avalanche Press Price: £13.49
    RRP: £14.99

Starting with the Italian invasion of Egypt in September, 1940, war flowed back and forth across the North African deserts for 18 months. The summer of 1942 found the Axis and Allied armies facing one another west of Tobruk, where the Commonwealth forces had dug in behind extensive minefields. Each army prepared to renew the offensive, but the Axis won that race. On the night of May 26th four mobile divisions turned the southern flank of the British line at Gazala.

Gazala simulates the critical battle in the summer of ’42 that led to the fall of Tobruk and the arrival of the Axis armies at the gates to the Nile delta. We’ve shown the battles before on a tactical level in our Desert Rats game. With 140 game pieces and one 22x17-inch map, Gazala’s three scenarios can be played in one to eight hours. The game system is very similar to that in America Triumphant and Alsace 1945, with the addition of anti-tank fire. Most units are brigades or regiments, with a few battalions as well (usually tanks). Italian, German, British, South African, Indian and Free French units are represented.

Grand Europa Module: Wavell's War Price: £44.99
    RRP: £49.99

Wavell’s War (WW) combines the War in the Desert (WitD) game with the campaign in East Africa. It also ties the Balkan Front (BF) game to both of these and allows gamers to recreate the autumn 1940 start of the war in the Mediterranean and carry it through until 1943. The module contains 22 new maps, 840 new die-cut counters, 11 game play charts, rules, OBs, scenarios and a full appendices booklet.

This is the first Grand Europa module that will link specific existing games together and allow continuous play across related campaigns. The module is named for the British General Archibald Wavell who, as Commander in Chief of British forces in the Middle East, would fight across five different fronts from the Balkan Alps to the savannas of Kenya.

Always short of troops and supplies, General Wavell would direct the beginning of the campaigns which would see the end of the Italian empire. Few military commanders have been faced with the geographic challenges that were placed before Wavell. Now you can face those same challenges.

Wavell’s War is a limited edition publication. In order to play the full campaign, you must have the WitD and BF games. WW is not a stand-alone game but instead, links these two existing games together. The "East African Campaign" scenario can be played completely with WitD and the WW module. This is the successor to "Africa Orientale", originally published in Strategy & Tactics magazine.
