'The test of innovative prototype vehicles' is the subtitle of EDISON & CO., a high quality board game where
two to four players compete by optimising card play in an attempt to manoeuvre unique cars toward gaining points.
The major components consist of a mounted game board showing an oval race track with changeable scoring spaces,
four identical sets of manoeuvre cards, and four cast metal vehicles. All components and graphics are first rate.
This is not a racing game! Yes, it has a racetrack, but it is really just a playing surface in the shape of a racetrack.
At the beginning of the game each player is secretly assigned a card showing his ranking of the vehicles. One vehicle
will be at factor "3", one at "2", one at "1" and the last at zero. Each player will have a different ranking of the
vehicles. Hence you may want the SteamRocket to score well, but the other players will not, but don't let them know.
A turn consists of a player showing either a direction card (forward or reverse), a speed card (one to six spaces), or
vehicle card (showing two of the four vehicles) with the following player actually getting the choice of which of the two
vehicles to move.
A typical combination of cards may be:
- "Steamrocket / Turbo Flyer" (Choice-card)
- "5" (Movement-card)
- "Forward" (Direction-card)
The last player looks at all these cards and decides which of the vehicles shown on the Choice-card he will move.
Then he performs the movement and the turn is over
Whenever a movement "2" card is played a scoring round is triggered. Scoring is determined by which space on the
racetrack the vehicles are on during scoring turns. Each player scores differently for each vehicle. The four-player
team play version is the best, with each reduction in number of players decreasing its play value.
E&C is a unique and fun way to while away ninety minutes of your gaming time. If you like interactive strategic
card play, this game is for you. Besides, when was the last time you got to drive a Zeppelin Car or Turbine Yacht?
